Patricia Powers

Paris balconyI moved to Paris in 2005 on a two year expatriate contract for a market research company. Two years became twenty (gasp!), and I obtained French citizenship in 2021. I grew up in suburban Pennsylvania the youngest of five children and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia with a degree in Psychology and minors in English and Women's Studies. A successful corporate career (check out my LinkedIn profile for more on that) allowed me to travel all over the world before returning to my love of writing.

I focus on non-fiction personal essay, memoir and poetry, and my themes often revolve around childhood nostaglia, departures and the everyday ups and downs of living in an adopted country. My family and childhood are great sources of material for me; growing up in a big family was messy and hilarious. I'm a child of the 80's (holla Gen X) and therefore constructing this website is a serious accomplishment. I also write about life in Paris, the circus of languages that is my household and generally trying to figure out what the hell I am doing here, oftentimes feeling not American but not French.
